This week in magic!

Welcome to Knoxville Sage! 🔮
February is quickly coming to an end! Since we worked to love ourselves and bring in love this month. We figured it would be a suitable end to share handfasting, for those who want to commit to their love.
Sage Advice
Hand-fasting is a symbolic unity ritual in which a couple stand face to face as their hands are tied together - hence the phrase, tying the knot! As your hands are bound, you can recite words that express your commitment to one another. depending on the term's usage, it may be an unofficiated wedding, a betrothal, or a temporary wedding. The phrase refers to the making fast of a pledge by the shaking or joining of hands.
Steps to handfast
Choose your cords or fabric - decide what type of cloth, ribbons or ropes you want to use. You can opt for something simple and understated, like a plain white rope, or have handfasting ribbons custom-made with special embroidery, charms or other details.
Handfasting Cord Color Meanings
In terms of handfasting history, there are common colors and meanings associated with the cords, but some couples will give different meanings based on their own relationship. For example, if the color purple was your mom's favorite hue, you could choose that one as a special way to honor her. Here are some of the most popular handfasting cord color meanings.
Red: passion, strength, lust, fertility
Orange: encouragement, attraction, kindness, bounty
Yellow: charm, confidence, joy, balance
Green: finances, fertility, charity, prosperity, health
Blue: tranquility, patience, devotion, sincerity
Purple: Power, piety, sanctity, sentimentality
Black: strength, wisdom, vision, success
White: purity, concentration, meditation, peace
Gray: neutrality, canceling, balance
Pink: unity, honor, truth, romance, happiness
Brown: earth, grounding, talent, telepathy, home
Silver: treasure, values, creativity, inspiration
Gold: energy, wealth, intelligence, longevity
Chose how to bind - with one hand each or two. For one hand, stand side-by-side and hold out your arms together. If you choose two, stand face-to-face and clasp each other by the hands (or wrists for a more secure grasp!) - many couples will cross their arms, with one's left hand linking the other's right, which looks like an infinity knot from above. There are no hard or fast rules.
Ask either your celebrant or chosen family members or friends to do the fasting - some couples ask lots of different guests to come and place a ribbon over their hands.
There are several ways to tie the ribbon, from a simple knot to a more elaborate wrapping of the wrists that results in an impressive infinity knot.
As the knots are tied, some couples will plan to recite vows of commitment to one another.
Leave the cords on for your chosen length of time -When you do remove it, it's encouraged to try to slip it off with the tie intact. Some couples even keep it as a keepsake.
Night Sky: Moon and the Teapot
The waning crescent moon will approach and then enter the asterism of the Teapot of Sagittarius on the mornings of February 22 and 23, 2025. Look for them before dawn.
Adopt Your Next Familiar

Malone: distinguished & kind older gentleman
Malone needs a comfortable and peaceful retirement home. He would love a nice yard to explore and a couch to rest on. Malone is around 8 years old and a Malamute mix. He is neutered, vaccinated, and ready for a new home! Put in an adoption application with Maryville Alcoa Animal Rescue Center.

What better way to celebrate your commitment to one another than with handfasting—the blessed marriage rite in which the hands of you and your beloved are wrapped in ribbon as you “tie the knot.” Check it out here. Bookshop.org sells eBooks now too!
