Greetings, Magickal Souls!

I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather as it marches in!! I know I am, although we haven’t turned on the heat yet, so early morning can be extra cold. It is just right through out the day!

In super exciting to me news! I graduated with a BLA in 2016, but I have been paying my college for almost a decade some of the out of pocket expenses to finish my degree. And on October 1st I paid them off! So TODAY I just officially received my diploma in the mail!!! It is like I am really actually a graduate now!!

Have you ever done a dumb dinner?? I have been thinking about having one for a couple years, and it seems like it could be a nice community event. So although I don’t have time this year, is that something we could or should pull off? I’m not sure if they allow food, but I do know this cute little place on Tazewell Pike, called Learn.Heal.Grow that has just the right amount of ambiance, But having it somewhere like at The Kraken’s Tea Cup could also be interesting!

Sage Advice

Here is a list of some fun things to do in October as we move closer to Samhain!

• Make Your Own Scrying Mirror - As the days grow shorter, the “veil between worlds” thins, making this the perfect time to peer into otherworldly affairs.

• Make Black Salt - autumn makes the ideal time to make ingredients for protection and binding spells. 

• Poppit/”Voodoo Doll” - modify a pattern from a regular stuffed doll to make it all. Or, just kind of wing it. 

• Fall Incense Blend - Make creative use of orange peels, fall spices like cinnamon & star anise, or pine needles collected on an autumn walk.  Blend your own fall incense for use during Samhain rituals, or to celebrate the harvest moons.

• Create a Scrapbook for your ancestors - Samhain reminds us to remember those who came before us.  Honor them in the coming months by researching their lives, gathering pictures from relatives, and putting together a family history album.

Night Sky: The Dolphin swims the southern sky

Sunday October 26th, the small constellation of Delphinus is positioned high in the southern sky. Look for its five 4th magnitude stars shining just to the lower left (or celestial southeast) of the line connecting the very bright stars Deneb and Altair.

According to Greek legend, Poseidon, god of the seas, was assisted in a matter of the heart by a friendly dolphin, so he rewarded it with a place of honor in the heavens. Delphinus' brightest two stars are bluish Sualocin, at the top of its head, and whitish Rotanev, at the nape of its neck. Those funny appellations are actually the name of 19th-century astronomer Nicolaus Venator spelled backwards. Gamma Delphinus, the star marking the dolphin's nose, is a close-together double star with one component a greenish color.
