This week in magick!

Greetings, Magickal Souls!
Who’s ready for Yule? Not me. Christmas? Nope still not.. But bring on 2026! I am so ready! We have plans to do more, be more and see more in the new year and I can’t wait! We already have a few months planned out. Have some plans to be at events 🤯🤯 I know two introverts into the world!
But we are so excited and can’t wait to share it all with you! And I’ll be honest it has been rough lately and I am hoping to use the energy and momentum of the New Year to reset.
Sage Advice
Yule is the second sabbat of the Wheel of the Year. 12 Days of Yule is a modern pagan design. Most modern witches begin on the eve of the Winter Solstice and continue through New Year’s Eve.
Day 1: Mother’s Night - Mother’s Night can be a moment to work with the Goddess or any other female deities, or a time to pay homage to the literal women in your life who have shaped you into who you are today. These could be your actual family, your chosen family, or your ancestral line.
Day 2: Winter Solstice - The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year and the next morning is the turning point when the Sun begins its gradual return.
Day 3: Day of Ancestors - Yule is a time for family gatherings, and it’s also a time when we remember those who came before us.
Day 4: The Hearth and the Home -The hearth was the spiritual and literal center for ancient pagans. And, in winter, it was even more important. It was the place where the family cooked the meals, dried the clothes, burned the Yule Log, and gathered around to stay warm.
This could also be a time you light the Yule Log.
Day 5: Gift-Giving Day - For eclectic Pagans, this day can be an opportunity to return to those intentions with homemade gifts or acts of generosity.
Day 6: Odin’s Day - Odin is a primary figure associated with Yule in later Norse and Germanic folklore.
Day 7: Grýla and the Yule Lads - The Icelandic Yule Lads were originally mischievous household spirits with names like Door-Slammer, Spoon-Licker, and Sausage-Snatcher. You can use this day to celebrate individuality and the playful side of midwinter folklore. Tricksters remind us that imperfection is part of being human and laughter is essential, especially during the darkest days of the year.
Day 8: Volunteering and Service - Across different folk traditions, people also moved from house to house bringing blessings, songs, jokes, or brief performances in exchange for food or drink.
Day 9: The Deer Mother - Across Northern Eurasia, the figure of the reindeer mother appears in winter folklore as a guide, protector, and bringer of light.
She is not a traditional part of Yule. But, she can represent the courage it takes to move through winter and the ability to navigate cold, dark times while still carrying light.
Day 10: Saturnalia - Ancient Rome’s most famous midwinter festival, defined by feasting, revelry, temporary role reversals, and public joy. For eclectic Yule, this day honors community joy, play, and shared celebration.
Day 11: Mari Lwyd - The Mari Lwyd (“Grey Mare”) is one of Wales’ most distinctive midwinter traditions. She’s a haunting figure made from a real horse skull mounted on a pole, draped in white cloth, and decorated with ribbons or bells. She represents a winter visitor from the Otherworld.
You can work with the Mari Lwyd as a part of the 12 Days of Yule as a reminder of the importance of boundaries and thresholds. Not everything is allowed to pass into your home or your inner world, even if it wants to come in.
Day 12: Hogmanay - Scotland’s winter New Year festival that takes place on December 31.
This final day of Yule focuses on vision and preparation for the coming year. It’s a moment to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what you want to build next. It allows you to close out Yule and step into the new year with a sense of purpose.
How you celebrate is really up to you. Some years you might want to go all out. Other years, that could look like just having a cup of coffee and thinking about the themes and how they relate to where you are now. What matters most is you’re following your own path with integrity.
May the light of the Sun shine on your family this Yule season.
Night Sky: New Moon & Winter Solstice!
The moment of new moon will fall at 7:43 p.m. CST on December 19. New moons rise and set with the sun. This is the 3rd of 3 new micromoons – or most distant new moons – in 2025. Nights around the new moon are perfect for stargazing, and this one is near the peak of the Ursid meteor shower.
The 2025 December solstice will happen at 9:03 a.m. CST on the 21st in North America. For the Northern Hemisphere, the December solstice marks the longest nights and shortest days of the year. For the Southern Hemisphere, it marks the shortest nights and longest days. After this solstice, the sun will begin moving northward in our sky again. Happy solstice to all!

This easy-going gentleman enjoys leisurely walks, naps in sunny spots, and quality time with his people. He gets along well with other dogs who share his good manners — especially those who know better than to mess with his prized possessions.
